When Uganda hosted Pope John Paul II in February 1993, he became the second head of the the Holy See to visit Uganda, after Pope Paul VI had made the first papal visit to Uganda in 1969. The visit of Pope John Paul II, who is now a saint, was historic in many respects. The head of the Catholic Church visited different parts of the country and met people of all walks of life. In the second part of our special papal series, Gertrude Tumusiime Uwitware speaks to Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala, who was then the Archbishop of Kampala as he recalls the historical visit. (...)
