WE LIVE IN THE CITY OF GOD
God's city is a perfect balance between human living and nature's resources. Both work together for the common good. With trees and the clouds it blends in graceful harmony.
"If the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes."
Repentance requires change, a change of heart and way of life. God's word is life-giving. It saves us from ruin which damages our hearts, minds, and souls as well as our bodies. Jesus' frustration was about our sinful ways. He wanted to direct us in everything which hinders us from doing the will of our heavenly Father. In love He calls us to walk in His way of truth and freedom, grace, loving-kindness, etc. so that we could live our lives on this earth with Him.
Many times we look for big miracles to happen, and many times we forget the biggest miracle already happened -- Jesus. The great things that happen in our lives are the signs of God's love that we have in other people's kindness, the beauty of a child, the faithfulness of spouses and dear friends, the security and comfort we enjoy. Sensitive, grateful hearts don't need extraordinary signs in the heavenly skies or alterations in nature. We should be able to see in the ordinary world that surrounds us, constant evidence of God's care and love. What we need is an attitude which does not take the good around us for granted. We should see that everything truly is a gift which comes through Christ.
In the responsorial psalm we acclaim, "God upholds His city forever" (Ps 48). Our city has foundations, monuments, gardens and streets. The city of our dreams has all that in the perfection of its design and the glory of its architecture. God's city is a perfect balance between human living and nature's resources. Both work together for the common good. With trees and the clouds it blends in graceful harmony.
May we open our eyes and walk in faith in the city God has gifted to us!
