GIFT OF THE LORD'S SUPPER
A great thing to be in life... is a foot washer!
Deacon John Ruscheinsky
This is a very special night for us as a Catholic Christian family. We receive the Gift of the Lord's Supper, the memorial of Jesus Christ's abiding and Real Presence. We continue to respond to His instruction, "Do this in memory of Me" (1 Cor. 11:24). There is another memorial for us as well, the amazing image of Jesus as He strips Himself down to the garments of a servant, bends His knees, and washes the feet of His disciples.
In our churches this evening it will not only be the priest who bathes feet to signify one who is called to be a servant, but you too as parents will be washing the feet of your children; children will be washing the feet of their parents, and husbands and wives as well. All who respond to Jesus' command can bathe the feet of another. This shows the true, loving presence of "Christ the Servant" to one another.
Let us love each other as Jesus Christ loves us and gave Himself up for us. A great thing to be in life... is a foot washer!
